The remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remains ominous. The title originally planned for 2021 has been pushed back several times – and now the project is back in the concept stage.
Until we hold a planned remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time in our hands, it’s likely to take a little longer than expected. After the once-announced 2021 title was pushed back several times, work at Ubisoft Montreal has fully resumed in the meantime. Ubisoft Pune is also being developed by the Ubisoft studio.
A new developer Q&A now says that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is “currently back in the concept phase”; It appears to be farther from the end of development work than at any time since the announcement.
Because of this, the title won’t be showing at Showcase Ubisoft Forward in June either – simply because there’s nothing to show either. However, the creators assure via Twitter that there is no cause for concern: the project is still alive and will continue to be worked on further. It is now simply at an “early stage” of development.
“With regard to the state of production, we are currently in the concept phase,” says producer Jean-Françoise Naud. “Since we took on the project, we’ve been looking for feedback from the community and finding our own way to present the game.”
He goes on to say that they are now building a team, prioritizing and assembling prototypes to test items and exploring how to get the community involved to get more feedback. No further details are expected about the title for the current year.
The Sands of Time Remake was originally announced in September 2020 and was scheduled for a 2021 release for PS4, PC, and Xbox One. After an initial delay, this one has been postponed indefinitely.
