Klagenfurt am Wörthersee – “Star Night” always welcomes many famous Schlager stars and stars from Austrian, Swiss and German show business. This year there was a real star when Andreas Gabalier (38) commemorated the late musician Roy Black (1943-1991) in a moving tribute. “Nice to be in the world”: Roy Black honored at Starnacht am Wörthersee.

“Starnacht am Wörthersee” has been an integral part of the German-language music calendar since 2000. It takes place once a year in Klagenfurt Bay on Lake Wörthersee, in 2009 and 2010 there were two editions in Switzerland. Every year, local and international stars shake hands here, paying homage to the art of being a musician.

A special member of the German music scene who died very young was also honored at this year’s event on the 8th of July, broadcast by broadcaster Das Erste. Roy Black, one of the greatest German pop stars of all time, would have turned 80 earlier this year, but he died of heart failure in 1991 at the age of 48.

Andreas Gaballier sings the famous Roy Black song: what the song means to him

Schlager star Andreas Gaballier took the opportunity to pay homage to Roy Black and sing one of his songs. He chose “It’s Good to Be in the World” because of the current situation. “Actually, it’s a very happy song. I thought: What’s happened in the last few years? Why do we have so many issues that keep us apart?” explained the interpreter of “Hulapalu” on “Star Night”.

He chose the song, released in 1971, not only because of its cult status and beautiful melody, but also to motivate solidarity. “It’s been a personal interest of mine to let that teamwork burn a little more, like in this number.”
