“Thank you, good” is the only well-meaning answer to a question about how they feel, if you don’t want to expect the truth from the other person. “Okay, thank you” is the ice on the surface that must be scraped or even broken to discover all the fish, octopuses and sunken ships that lie beneath. It’s the ice on the roof.” Anna Mabo wrote about her album of the same title: “Thank you, good.”
It became a triple album in which drummer Alexander Iannilos joined the tried-and-tested duet with Clemens Sanitzer on cello to give the sound more “float”, she says. The trained theater director wrote her songs about friendship, doubt and hope. She sings about timid sailors, tourists who wish to die in the Pyrenees and neighbors who also wish a package was sent to them.
There’s small and big stories in a simple guise, which sometimes shines through on the new album – playful, poetic and deep.
