The Bregenz Festival “Ernani” by Giuseppe Verdi will be shown on stage as an opera at the Festspielhaus next year. The work about love and revenge, which premiered in Venice in 1844, celebrated its premiere on Lake Constance on July 19, 2023 in a production of Lotte de Beer. The music director is Enrique Mazzola, interior designer Christoph Heitzer. “Ernani” was already on the Bregenz group in 1987, at the time directed by Brian Michaels and under the direction of the musician Pinchas Steinberg.
Like Verdi’s famous work “Rigoletto,” completed six years later, “Ernani” is based on a play by French author Victor Hugo. Opera brought Verdi his last achievement as a composer. Director Lotte de Beer and stage and costume designer Christoph Heitzer, who have already shown the richness of their imagination in dealing with historical themes in 2017 with Rossini’s “Musa in Egypt”, will work again next year with conductor Enrique Mazzola, who will be a collaboration with his passion The great of Verdi’s music who was also voiced in 2019 with the song “Rigoletto” on the lake stage.
Next year’s Bregenz Festival will take place from July 19 to August 20, 2023, and the revival of “Madame Butterfly” on the lake on July 20. The festival will present its full program for next year at a press conference on November 16th.
