The founder of the Martin Rutter Dog School in Vienna, TV celebrity, author and podcaster Connie Sporer, was also there. Under the slogan “Adoption Instead of Production” many dogs in animal shelters should be given a chance.
The idea for “Bark Date” came from Cologne veterinarian Lisa Williamson, who also works in animal protection. She realized that with so many clubs, websites and advertisements, individual dogs get lost quickly and launched the live event. Dogs are offered there and many people can attend to see if the animal is a good fit for them. The campaign also received support from the Martin Rutter Dog School in Cologne, which spread the word on social media. Vienna animal trainer Katja Stude became aware of the campaign and brought the first “bark history” to the federal capital.
“Find out if the chemistry is right”
This event was a great success. There were many people who were interested in adopting a dog. Fifteen dogs from five animal welfare organizations waited for their potential new families wearing red “Adopt Me” bandanas. Connie Sporer was pleased that there was “a great willingness and openness to learn about humane dogs and see if the chemistry is right.” Carol Byers, founder and president of the Animal Protection Society of Austria, was also excited. “It's a great opportunity to introduce humane dogs and highlight their positive aspects.”
