The main sponsors of the fair are the city of Kassel and the federal state of Hesse. A city spokesperson announced that the city does not intend to change its stake in the document. It was said from the Hesse State Ministry of Arts that the city of Kassel and the state of Hesse “agreed on the common goal of working through misconduct on the topic of anti-Semitism in Document XV and structural impotence”. The expert’s report, which is now due for publication, should work out the details.
New discovery mode
The selection committee for Documenta fifteen was also criticized in the context of the anti-Semitic scandal surrounding the show. The eight members advocated and supported the election of the controversial curators. The artistic direction of the document is decided in Kassel every five years by the selection committee. For the first time, the show’s former artistic directors must nominate a proposal to make up the selection committee.
As recently announced by Doc managing director Ferdinand von Saint-André, they include Rudi Fuchs (Document 7, 1982), Catherine David (Document X, 1997), Roger M. 2012) and Adam Chemczek (Doc. 14, 2017). The artistic direction of Documenta fifteen, the curatorial team of Ruangrupa, decided not to participate.
