Reitshammer, Bavarian 50m breaststroke semi-finalist at the World Swimming Championships

Reitshammer, Bavarian 50m breaststroke semi-finalist at the World Swimming Championships

Bernhard Reetshammer of Tyrol and Valentin Beyer of Lower Austria swam the 50-plus-meter breaststroke to the semi-finals (1.34pm CEST) at the World Long Course Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, on Tuesday. Reitshammer finished ninth in the heat in 27.11 seconds, and Bayer was in the final top 16 in 27.36. Felix Obock also takes part in the final session, namely in the final crawl over 200 meters (02/13, live ORF Sport +).

The day before, the lower Austrian made it to the semi-finals in 50 minutes and succeeded in swimming designed to complete last place in the final, which is also why Obock didn’t compete in the 800m crawl on Tuesday. Martin Esperenberger made his only World Championship start in Japan, where the US-schooled athlete finished 20th in the 200m Dolphin in 1:57.36 minutes. Austrian top 19-year-old Missed the top-16 semi-finals by 0.85 seconds, while Austrian top junior Cornelia Bammer, age 23, finished the 200-meter crawl in 2:01.66 minutes, placing 36th overall.

“The second semi-final is good, and then I hope the first final is here,” Reitshammer, who finished 16th in the 100-meter breaststroke, commented on his performance. Baer narrowly missed out on the semi-finals finishing 18th over the 100 metres, thus running the race “sharply”. Reaching the semi-finals now is also a good sign for the medley relay on Sunday. A similar command saw her in Thursday’s relay crawl. Finally, Espernberger found being in the World Cup top 20 “pretty cool. It’s very motivating for the future.”
