Buhorkan and a thunderstorm at the premiere of “Falstaff” at the Salzburg Festival: While a massive thunderstorm rocked Salzburg in front of the Großer Festspielhaus shortly before the break, Buhorkan erupted indoors at the end of the last evening of the directors’ premiere. Team “Falstaff” about Christoph Marthaler. In contrast to the ensemble and performance of the Philharmoniker im Graben under the baton of Ingo Metzmacher, the production clearly failed.
However, director Marthaler wasn’t the only one who got a cold shower at the Festspielhaus that evening. As in 2018, some of the ground-floor seats were already exposed to bad weather in the second half of the evening: water penetrated through a leaky roof and pushed some premiere guests from their seats fifteen minutes before the end of Verdi’s opera.
