The planned meeting between German Foreign Minister Annallina Barbock and Russia’s top diplomat Sergei Lavrov in New York failed. Yesterday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova criticized on Telegram that “after they asked their questions about negotiations with Sergei Lavrov on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly and received a proposal for a date from the Russian side, the EU delegations disappeared from the radar.” Channel.
The 46-year-old also appears to have referred to a conversation that started between Barbuk and Lavrov. In the run-up to the general debate in New York, there were contacts between local delegations. The German news agency has learned from diplomatic circles that it is about the possibility of a conversation between Barbuk and her Russian counterpart about the security of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant. The meeting did not take place.
Lavrov is scheduled to address the United Nations General Assembly on Saturday. Lavrov had already spoken before the UN Security Council on Thursday, accusing the West of meddling in the conflict and of wanting to tire Russia out. Even without listening to another country’s opinion, Lavrov once again left the room.
