In the first half of 2022, the Italian scooter manufacturer Piaggio achieved the highest sales in the company’s history. Sales increased by 16.8 percent compared to the first half of 2021 and broke the threshold of one billion euros.
Operating result (Ebitda) increased to €152.2 million (plus 5.3 percent). The company said net profit grew 3.9 percent to 45.2 million euros, the best result since 2008. The board of directors agreed to pay a dividend for 2021 of 8.5 cents a share, the same as last year. Piaggio sold 320,600 cars worldwide in the first half of the year (an increase of 11.7 percent).
In the scooter business, the company has seen a twofold increase in sales on a global basis, driven in particular by the Vespa brand. In the motorcycle segment, Moto Guzzi ended the first half of the year on a positive note with a 40 percent increase in sales. In the commercial vehicle segment, 49,000 vehicles were sold in the first half of the year (an increase of 10.8%) and net sales of €177.3 million were achieved (an increase of 26%). The group wants to set up an e-mobility division at its headquarters in Pontedera, Tuscany.
