Business using artificial intelligence? The American comedian is suing ChatGPT

American comedian Sarah Silverman and two other authors have sued OpenAI, developer of the ChatGPT platform, alleging copyright infringement.
In the lawsuit filed in California state court, the three plaintiffs allege that Open AI used their books to train artificial intelligence (AI) without their consent. Works are protected by copyright.
Silverman and authors Christopher Golden and Richard Cadre also sued Facebook’s parent company, Meta. Here too, the accusation is that their work was used to develop artificial intelligence.

The attorneys said the material used by OpenAI and Meta “derived from copyrighted works — including plaintiffs’ books — that were copied by OpenAI and Meta without consent, without attribution and without compensation.”

The European Parliament introduced a bill to regulate artificial intelligence:

In addition to the opportunities, AI also has many risks.

In the development of artificial intelligence, huge amounts of data are evaluated to train programs. Meanwhile, complaints from authors against this approach are growing. Success in court may limit the ability of technology companies to develop artificial intelligence.

OpenAI did not immediately respond to the lawsuit when asked by AFP. Meta did not initially respond to a request.
