A world premiere, 2 family operas and 3 premieres are the highlights of Sais’ second performance by artistic director Stefan Herrheim
“Theodora” is one of the 13 productions of the MusikTheater an der Wien in the new season. Intendant Stefan Herheim manages what he calls “the most rhetorical work” of George Frideric Handel.
It’s a wide-ranging programme: with Jaromir Weinberger’s popular opera “Schwanda, the Bagpiper”, for example, Slavic operas can be found alongside bel canto pieces and family operas in the program of the new 23/24 season.
As long as the Theater an der Wien is being renovated, it will be played at the Chamber Opera and for the first time at the REAKTOR in Hernals. And of course again in Hall E in the Museums Quarter.
The program covers 350 years of opera’s history. In addition to scenic opera performances, there will also be musical evenings and theme nights. In a chamber opera, for example, “Richard III” is supposed to be an evening of musical theater with surprising twists.
