Penelope Cruz with many films at the Venice Film Festival

Hollywood star Penelope Cruz is a regular guest at this year’s Venice Film Festival. The 47-year-old was not only seen at the opening of Pedro Almodovar’s “Madres paralelas” in the middle of the week. On Saturday, she also submitted another work in competition: “The Official Competition” is a satire about filmmaking. Cruz again plays one of the main roles alongside Antonio Banderas.

The Official Competition, the film’s English title, takes a look behind the scenes of filmmaking. Argentina’s Gaston Dobrat and Mariano Cohen directed the “Official Competition”. A few years ago, the duo celebrated success with the spelling “Nobel Prize Winner”.

Spaniard Penelope Cruz is not the only one who has been represented at the Venice Film Festival with more than one film. American Oscar Isaac was seen in Paul Schrader’s drama “The Card Counter” as a soldier and ex-player, while playing Timothée Chalamet’s father in the fantasy scene “Dunes” by Denis Villeneuve. Italian Tony Cervello also has two films on his show: “È stata la mano di Dio”, where Paolo Sorrentino (“La Grande Bellezza” looks at Naples in his youth, and “Qui rido io” about the actor and playwright Eduardo Scarpetta.
