Pianist Jae Hong Park played his way to victory with Rachmaninoff

Latest update in

Bolzano – pianist Jay Hong Park is the winner of this year’s 63rd International Bossoni Piano Competition in Bolzano. In addition to Korean musicians Jae Hong Park and Do Hyun Kim, Lucas Sternath of Vienna also qualified for the final with the Haydn Orchestra under the direction of Arvo Vollmer. The twenty-year-old, the first Austrian since 1984 to reach an orchestral finale at the Busoni Finale, was awarded third prize for performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Fifth Piano Concerto. On the other hand, Jae Hong Park was convinced by his interpretation of the Third Piano Concerto by Rachmaninoff.

The International Busoni Competition was launched in 1949 in memory of pianist Ferruccio Busoni and is currently awarded every two years. An international jury of experts very accurately assessed the participating young talents: in more than half of the editions, the first place was not awarded. (TT)
