The Horten Museum opened in Vienna in early June

It’s the most anticipated event of this year’s Vienna Museum summer: the opening of the Heidi Horten collection in the Hanuschhof between the Vienna State Opera and the Albertina. After two years of public renovation, it is now certain that the new private museum of billionaire widow Heidi Gus Horton will officially open on June 3 with the “OPEN” show. This was announced on Monday by the Heidi Horten group, which is headed by former Belvedere president Agnes Husslein-Arco.

The next architecture firm, Enterprise, was responsible for the redesign of the former Arcade Chancellery building. The facade of the building has been preserved from 1914. Inside there are now three exhibition levels with 1,500 square meters of exhibition space, connected by free-floating staircases. The tea room, designed by Markus Sheinwald and Hans Kopelweizer, invites visitors to rest after visiting the museum.

The inaugural exhibition “OPEN” initially focuses on the architecture of the new site, which will be curated with the selected works. The first thematic exhibition “Look” is due to follow in the fall, and is dedicated to images of women and aspects of femininity. “I see my museum as a place to discover, to experience, to enjoy art – because that is exactly art and remains to this day to me: an indispensable pleasure!”
