DrThe Ritz Symphony Wind Orchestra (SBO) has achieved another achievement in its twenty-year history: under the direction of Music School Director Gerhard Fuhrmann, the ensemble achieved second place in the prestigious 2nd Austrian Wind Orchestra Competition in Grafenig.

“Praise of Jerusalem” by Alfred Reed, the great composer of the symphony wind orchestra, was played as a self-selected piece. “A musical hymn to the city of Jerusalem, a powerful and majestic work for wind orchestra, with what is certainly the most impressive final section in brass music literature – an additional six-part brass section,” the Ritzer Land Music School Association says in a press release.

The obligatory piece was the “Festive” by the Spanish composer Ferrer Ferran, a work in three movements, composed for the opening of a concert hall in Spain, with high technical, musical and rhythmic requirements.

With her emotional performance, SBO Retz touched the hearts of the audience and the jury. The performance received an impressive 94.56 points. Just behind the Blaserphilharmonie Kärnten, the Retz took second place – and they were very happy with it.
