The CD by 23-year-old British trumpeter Goldscheider collects three acts from five decades. The nobility and lightness of tone that the award-winning trumpeter has at his disposal is particularly evident in the Andante grazioso movement of the Arnold concerto from 1956. Goldscheider’s ability to shape music into its dramatic course, and also to use what is usually called virtuosity, to serve the purpose of the statement, benefits Gipps’ concerto. (1969), which should also find its way into the solo trumpet group outside of Great Britain.
Arnold and Gibbs were born in 1921. Gibbs, the highly talented student of Ralph Vaughan Williams, was played by critics and influential party organizers, and Arnold against Pierre Boulez, Luigi Nuno or Karlheinz Stockhausen as “uncontemporary” or “uncontemporary” and even mocked them. They were discontented with the polemics against dodecaphony, serialization, and other doctrines, so sharply, and most suspiciously, that they gained the approval of the public. The “ECHO Rising Star” for the 2021/22 season has liberated himself from such front positions: he is a trumpet player in Pierre Boulez’s squad.
The 2019 Century Concerto by German composer Christoph Schönberger, who describes himself as a “new romantic,” occupies as much space as those by Arnold and Gibbs. For Goldscheider’s remarkable creative potential, I wished for contemporary works other than Schönberger’s concerto.
