Critérium du Dauphiné: Jonas Vingegaard on unstoppable seventh stage – Dane wins Col de la Croix de Fer

Jonas Vingegaard eventually attacked on the Col de la Croix de Fer with a 5.3km lead and edged the pack of favourites.

Only Adam Yates (UAE UAE Team Emirates) tried to chase, but he had no chance of holding the Dane either. In the end, the Briton was second, 41 seconds behind Vingegaard. Guy Hindley (Bora Hansgrohe) was third (+0:53).

Ben O’Connor II the previous year had reached the finish line at 2067m in fourth place (+1:04) and lost 23 seconds to Yates. Thus, Yates finished second in the general classification. His gap to Vingegaard is 2:11 minutes before Sunday’s eighth and final stage. O’Connor is third, 13 seconds behind.

But Hindley can still hope for the Dauphine platform. The 2022 Giro winner is just 12 seconds behind O’Connor in fourth.

Critérium du Dauphiné: Buchmann is outside the top 20

The best German player overall is Hendley’s teammate Emanuel Buchmann in 23rd (+7:40). He finished the seventh stage on Saturday in 25th place.

Also the eighth and final part of the Dauphiné Tour (Starting at 1:10 p.m. right at Discovery+) has everything back. It leads from Le Pont-de-Claix over 153 kilometers up to the Bastille above Grenoble. A total of six rated mountains must be conquered on Sunday. The Bastille final will be really tough again: although the final climb is only 1.8 kilometers long, it has an average gradient of 14.2 percent.
