The 39-year-old prince confirmed in a statement read by his lawyer that “to their great sadness, he and his wife, Meghan, felt compelled to step down from this role and leave the country in 2020.” The youngest son of King Charles III said: “Britain is my home.” He continued in the statement. He wants his children to feel as comfortable there as they do in their current place of residence in the USA. But this would not work “if it was not possible to protect them on British soil.”

The new proceedings before the High Court, which began on Tuesday, relate specifically to the Home Office’s February 2020 decision to only grant police protection to Prince Harry on a case-by-case basis. Attorney James Eddy, who represents the Home Office in the process, defended the limited promise of protection. The fact that Prince Harry only receives police protection under “certain conditions” and “depending on the context” is due to the “change in his status” brought about by the Prince himself with his decision to become “a member of the Royal Family without an official position.” .
